Hi guys, just to let you know that I have been working on a new version of GadgetStart. The new version will include not only gadgets, but more… I’m planning to have the new version ready in a couple of weeks. Hold on.
Our hosting party has some technical difficulties right now, leaving us with an empty GadgetStart. Hopefully it will be all over soon so that we can enjoy our gadgets…
As you’ve might have seen, I’ve put up some new ads on the site. No more boring text-ads, but graphics this time. Dirk told me that Google AdSense also supported graphic content, so I thought I would give it a little try. Looks better don’t you think (I know it’s still an ad….).
There’s still other things on my to do list: 1. make a page called “first time here” or something. 2. fix bugs in image retrieval (some images end up all black). 3. Make the layout of the page nicer.
Gadgetstart did very well on the Dutch web2.0 awards, we won third prize! That’s pretty impressive, given that the competition was tough. Thanks so much for voting!!
I went to the award show which was pretty cool. Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten was so kind to host the party. The room was full with entrepreneurs which gave the evening energy. I met Jan Karel Kleijn again, which was so nice to give me a free FON router (btw FON ROCKS!). Spoke with Marcel Wickel from Buurtlink, James Burke, the guys from eBuddy, and I had a very interesting talk about knowledge management with Rene Jansen from Winkwaves.
Thanks BlueAce for the party!
GadgetStart has been nominated for the Dutch Web 2.0 Awards! We are in the category “most innovative concept”. You can vote now!
The guys from Bright (an excellent Dutch site about digital lifestyle) featured GadgetStart on their site today! We’re in the top right corner as a ‘recommendation’. That’s pretty cool.

I just searched on the term “gadget overview” on Google and we are on nr 2! Wow, that’s just great. I know Google favors recent content (like blogs), we’re recent all the time, so I hope we stay on this position. Moreover, I don’t now how many people search on the term “gadget overview”. Anyway, it’s pretty cool!
The site is not finished, it still needs a lot of tweaks and possible new features. But I wanted to get the site out as quickly as possible for you to start enjoying it (I do).
But I was wondering what would you like to see on GadgetStart?
Here are some tips for getting the full experience
Fullscreen, no scrollbars
Yes people, maximize that browser screen! If your screen is large enough (and if you’re a bit lucky) you will see no scrollbars when your screen is maximized. You will get the true single page overview.
Get Firefox, get rounded corners
Wow, nice little rounded corners in the descriptions. Look at this screenshot to see what I mean. Get FireFox browser here.

Leave Gadgetstart open in one of your tabs
Most modern browsers have tabbed browsing (Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, Opera). If you open GadgetStart open in one of these tabs it will refresh every 10 minutes. You can always stay up-to-date by looking at the tab once in a while.
Hi! This is GadgetStart. Welcome. On the site you can find only one thing: gadgets, in one overview, on one page, updated continuously.
That’s the idea of the site, simple.
Anyway, enjoy the site and come back often (the images are updated multiple times an hour).
Oh, and spread the word
